Frosh Is Female A-10 Performer and Rookie of the Week -- February 3, 2003

RICHMOND, Virg., Feb. 3. RICHMOND freshman Brooke Boncher (West Newbury, Mass.)
swept theA-10 women's swimming and diving awards grabbing both the Performer and
Rookie of the Week citations for February 3.
Boncher previously received A-10 Rookie of the Week for the weeks of November
18, November 25, and January 20.
Claiming her third record of the year, Boncher shattered teammate Mary Adams'
2:06.25 200-yard butterfly record against Navy on Saturday, February 1. The
freshman standout set the new time to beat at 2:05.32. In her final rookie home
dual meet, Boncher also grabbed top honors in the 100-yard butterfly (55.94)
and 100-yard freestyle (51.93).
Earlier in the week, Richmond traveled to George Washington on Wednesday,
January 29. In that dual meet, Boncher took first place in all three individual
events - 100-yard butterfly (57.21), 50-yard freestyle (23.65), and 200-yard
freestyle (1:54.17). In both of last week's meets, Boncher swam a leg of the
200- and 400-yard medley relay (1:49.47 at GW, 3:56.74 vs.
Navy).
The freestyler also holds records in the 50-yard freestyle (23.52) and 100-yard
freestyle (50.92). Boncher has left her mark at Columbia's Uris pool setting
the record for the 100-yard butterfly (56.90).
Boncher and the Spiders will return to the pool at the Atlantic 10 swimming and
diving championships February 20 through 22 in Buffalo, N.Y.
